Sweet and Sour Besan Kadhi

 Kadhi is a popular north Indian dish and widely served with steam rice.

Besan combined with yogurt and mixed in various spices brings out delicious taste when served hot with steam rice. 

If you have a long tiring day, and need something quick tummy filling, you can opt for this. 

Kadhi is a quick dish and can be made with few basic ingredients. You just need to mix curd and besan. Next, we need to tampered it with curry leaves, asafoetida, onion, garlic, green chilies and turmeric. Garnishing can be done simply with chopped coriander leaves and the Kadhi is ready to serve. 

Remember, not to skip adding garlic as it adds the nice aroma. Kadhi-Chawal is the best replacement when u get bored eating dal-chaval. 

Some people add Pakora to this kadhi and that is call Kadhi-Pakora which is a very popular dish in Punjab. 

Lets learn how to make Besan Kadhi

Ingredients

  • 2 cup curd
  • 1/2 cup besan
  • 5-6 cup water
  • 6 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Pinch of hing
  • Oil
  • Salt

Recipe

  1. Combine besan, salt, red chili powder, turmeric in a bowl.
  2. Add curd and whisk till smooth.
  3. Add water and continue to mix till smooth mixture. 
  4. Keep stirring and make sure there are no lumps.
  5. Heat a pan and add oil. Once the oil is hot enough, add cumin seeds and mustard seeds.
  6. Let them sputter then add hing and curry leaves with green chilies.
  7. Add crushed ginger and saute well.
  8. Pour the besan-curd mixture, sugar and mix well.
  9. Let it boil for 4-5 minutes. 
  10. Then simmer on low flame till it thickens slightly.
  11. Dont make it very thik. It should be of thin consistency.
  12. Remove from the heat and serve with hot steam rice.
