Kheema Pav

Kheema Pav is one of the Mumbai's favorite street dish. The recipe is very simple. Chicken or mutton minced and cooked with spices stuffed in buttered pav. 

Though it is a street food but it is loaded with carbs and proteins. It is pocket friendly, quick and tasty Mumbai dish. 

If you didn't get time for the morning breakfast, you can easily grab this Kheema Pav on the streets of Mumbai. 

Kheema Pav is not just limited to serve on roads. It has beenincluded in the hotels menu, pubs or even in 5-star hotels. 

Lets us start the recipe. 


Cooking Time: 45 Minutes

Servings: 3 - 4

Ingredients

  • 500gm mutton kheema
  • 3 large onions, finely chopped
  • 3 large tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 3 white cloves
  • 3 - 4 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 black cardamom
  • 1" Cinnamon stick
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 4 green cardamom pods
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  •  Salt to taste
  • Coriander, finely chopped
  • 3-4 tsp oil/ghee

Recipe

  1. Heat oil/ghee in a heavy bottom pan. Add Khada masala i.e. bay leaf, cinnamon stick,cardamom pods and cloves and fry for few seconds. 
  2. Add onion and green chilies. Fry till onion becomes tender. 
  3. Add ginger and garlic paste. Saute for couple of minutes.
  4. Add tomatoes and cook for 5 - 7 minutes or till tomato softens.
  5. Add spices i.e. red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala and fry till all gets mixed well.
  6. Add mutton kheema and mix well. Cook for 5 - 8 minutes. 
  7. Add salt and mix well.
  8. Add enough water and cover the pan. 
  9. Cook for 5 minutes on low flame.
  10. Transfer the entire stuff to the pressure cooker and cook till first whistle on low flame.
  11. After the first whistle, continue cooking for next 15 minutes. 
  12. Switch off the gas and let it cool down completely.
  13. Heat butter in a pan.
  14. Fry the pav on the butter.
  15. Kheema should not be completely dry and should have some oil in it.
  16. Serve hot kheema pav.
