Prawns Biryani

You must have Chicken Biryani many times in restaurants, right? Same there, you also read Prawns Biryani. Many of you ordered the same as well. I know it tastes very good.

Most of us have tried chicken biryani at home and I know you made it very well. Here we are going to see how prawns biryani Or Jhinga Rice is made.

It is very simple and needs very few ingredients. Fragrant basmati rice cooked with prawns, spices, yogurt is what you need.

Don't serve the biryani alone. Always pair it up with Raita (Cucumber+Onion+Tomato) or Gravy, whatever is easier for you.


For Rice
  • 2 cup long-grain basmati rice
  • Water, as required
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 cardamom
  • 4 black pepper
  • Bay leaf
  • 1-inch cinnamon stick
For Gravy
  • 1 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste (Ginger and garlic in the same proportion )
  • 1 medium tomato, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
For Biryani 
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1-inch cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 tsp shahjire
  • 3 - 4 pepper
  • 2 cardamom
  • pinch of nutmeg powder
  • 4 cloves
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  •  2 cup Prawns
  • 3 green chilies
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tsp oil
  • Lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 1/4 cup onion, vertically sliced
  • Cashewnuts and almonds
  • 2 tsp garam masala
 Recipe :
1. Rinse and soak basmati rice for 10 minutes.
2. Add water, bay leaf, lemon juice, shahajira, and salt. Bring to a boil.
3. Add soaked rice and cook 70%.
4. For marination, add prawns and ingredients from Biryani except for vertically sliced onions and nuts.
5. Mix well. Cover and keep aside.
6. Heat 3 - 4 tsp oil in a heavy bottom pan and fry cashew nuts and almonds in the same pan.  Keep aside.
6. Add oil in a pan and fry vertically sliced onions till golden brown.
7. Add sliced tomatoes and bay leaf. Saute for 2 minutes on high flame.
8. Mix marinated prawns and start cooking on low flame for 5 - 7 minutes. Do not add water.
9. Add coriander leaves.
10. Our Rice is ready and prawns are ready. Let's layer it.
11. Start layering with rice at the bottom. Top it with fried onions and cashew nuts, almonds.
12. Layer the prawn's gravy over the onions evenly.
13. The next layer is rice layer. Repeat the layers till all the items are finish.
14. You should get the Rice layer as the last layer.
15. Garnish the top layer with fried cashew, almonds, and coriander leaves.
16. Cook for 15 minutes on low flame with covering the pot.
17. Delicious Prawns Biryani is ready to serve.
