Ingredients for chakali
  • 1 cup chakali bhajani
  • 1 tsp Asafoetida powder
  • 2 - 3 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

Chakali Recipe :
  1. Heat some oil in a pan. Pour it on bhajani and mix well.
  2. Add sesame seeds, Asafoetida powder, red chili powder, Salt, turmeric powder and 1 cup boiling water to bhajani.
  3. Make a pliable dough of bhajani. You may use little lukewarm water to knead the dough. The dough should be soft.
  4. Now put the dough in chakali mold. Press and move the mold in circular motion to get the chakli shape. (Normally 3 rounds)
  5. Heat oil in a kadhai. Let the oil be sufficiently hot, turn the flame from high to medium heat and put chakali one by one in the kadhai. Fry 2 or 3 chakalis at a time. Do not over-fry. Fry till golden-brown.
  6. Drain and put on paper to remove extra oil.
  7. Let the chakalis get cool. Store them in an Airtight container.

I am an SEO expert by profession. That is one side of the coin. The other side is my enduring passion for cooking, particularly Indian cuisine in all its glorious splendour. I revel in traditional and more modernistic experimental cooking with an Indian slant. The permutations are endless. I could spend my whole life and still find something new in Indian cooking. I find time from my profession and a busy family life to try out dishes, dream up combos and share them with you. Food is one of the pleasures of life that can be enjoyed at any age and tastes change according to age so I tailor recipes to suit all preferences.
